David Hinkle

York, PA - http://www.david-hinkle.com

David Hinkle first got his start in the gaming industry as a reviewer for a small time website in early 2004. After getting tired of little pay and a lack of recognition for his hard work, David sought employment elsewhere, eventually landing a job with Weblogs Inc. in March of 2006.

In October of 2006, David left his day job to blog full-time. He is still trying to convince friends and family that he actually has a job and doesn't just sit around the house all day in his underwear.

This is how you make a portable SNES

We often want to play SNES, but our busy up-and-go lifestyle of blogging for Joystiq doesn't allow it. Thankfully, a modder over at Retroactive.be came up with a solution: the portable SNES you see above. Sure, it's not our first time seeing such a mod, but it is definitely one of the most stylish. Why, we haven't been so blown away since we've seen this same mod made out of wood!

Head past the break for a video showing off the device, then hit up our gallery below for some other impressive retro mods.

New Muramasa trailer makes with the slicing and dicing

There's no better way to fully appreciate the wonderful artistic style and furious action of Muramasa: The Demon Blade than to see it in motion. And, thankfully, that's just what we got for you right now. Above, you'll find a near-minute of fabulous Muramasa gameplay footage for your eyes to drool over, and if you're wondering what all of the fuss is about, you really should be keeping up.

New Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles trailer makes with the cheap scares

Capcom has issued a new trailer for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, complete with high production values and --OMG what was that?! Sorry, but you see things keep popping --AHHHH! We apologize, we're trying to get this post done, but scary things are making loud noises and jumping right out at us.

Hopefully you'll be able to get through this two-and-a-half minute trailer without suffering a coronary. We'll cross our fingers for you.

Hackers add Roy to Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Smashboards forum user goodoldganon wasn't satisfied with all of the characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. His main contention with the game was that it lacked several key Melee characters. So, he did what any sensible member of society would do: He wrote a letter to Nintendo He hacked the crap out of the game.

As evidenced in the videos past the break, this isn't merely a texture swap, as goodoldganon also incorporated Roy's moves into the game. By delegating the hack to a certain color set of Marth's (here it's the red suit), he can pick Roy at will and seamlessly integrate him into the game. Sure, the bottom of the screen still says Marth, but, for all intents and purposes, this is the Roy you remember.

It's impressive stuff, to say the least, so head past the break and check out the footage of a fighter's return to the arena.

[Thanks, Slashy!]

VC in Brief: Fantasy Zone II (Sega Master System)

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
We say: Shmup and Sega fanboys will gobble this up

This week, we've got classic shmup Fantasy Zone II on the Virtual Console. And, just like the first game, it's a whole bunch of colorful fun. Featuring infectious music, pleasant locales, and plenty of coins to collect, it's a solid choice for someone looking for a shmup that isn't Gradius.

Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks.

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: More E3 interviews

The Nintendo Channel receives another helping of E3 interviews this week, highlighting big Wii titles such as Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Rabbids Go Home, and, the feel-good story of the year, Tatsunoko vs Capcom. We're pumped for the we-never-saw-it-coming localization. How about you?

Fragile arrives on European shores early 2010

The tri-Crescendo-developed Namco Bandai RPG, Fragile, will eventually make its way to Europe, GameSpot reports. Sometime in early 2010, Europeans will be able to get their own taste of this post-apocalyptic title following Seto, who is believed to be the last living human being. It's kind of like I Am Legend, but, like, bearable.

Made by the same team behind Eternal Sonata, Fragile is currently set to release in North America during the holidays courtesy of XSEED, and will arrive in Europe via Rising Star Games.

Pikmin just as awesome in Lego form

Filip Felberg is kind of like Mr. Miyagi, but instead of masterfully pruning bonsai (and training kids to take down Cobra Kai), he makes awesome stuff out of Lego. His flickr page shows us his latest fixation: Nintendo's Pikmin. He's remade Olimar (and his ship), along with many of the enemies encountered in the game, to great effect. His creations strike an amazing resemblance to their in-game counterparts, and we totally wouldn't mind having a few of these on our desk. How about you?

Dragon's Lair on NES might be the worst game ever

While we like to think that we've played a lot of NES games, we never experienced the console's version of Dragon's Lair. And we're thankful for that, as a Nintendorks video (available after the break) shows what could possibly be the worst game ever made ever. Not only is the gameplay an issue, but it's so tough that getting past the first screen is on par with scoring a womp rat bullseye in your T17! How do you make this game and not stop to question it halfway through?

First DiRT 2 media lacks polish

When people criticize the Wii, the graphics are usually one of the first things mentioned. Codemasters' DiRT 2 is sure to bring about cries of "N64!" and other such malarkey, because, well, it looks bad. We'd like to be more diplomatic, but, yeah, you can see it in the trailer above and in the screens in the gallery below. Bad, right?

VC in Brief: SimEarth (TG16)

SimEarth: The Living Planet (TG16 CD-ROM, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
We say: Best played on PC

This week's release is an oldie, but a goodie: SimEarth: The Living Planet for the TurboGrafx-16. It's been a long time since I played this game, and it's still as fun as I remember it. It's much better on the PC (way better controls), but, if this is your only way to play the game, I'd suggest you check it out.

Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks.

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: E3 interviews

This week, the Nintendo Channel has been flooded with a variety of interviews about big upcoming Wii titles. There are interviews with the folks behind FFCC: The Crystal Bearers, Red Steel 2, Cave Story, and, as you can see above, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. So, hit up the video above, then if you want more E3 interview goodness, be sure to boot up your Wii and check out what's on the Nintendo Channel.
